NEW CENTURY
TAROT
By Rolf
Eichelmann
In 1989, Rolf Eichelmann's
wife gave him the book Tarot Classic. It inspired him to begin a tarot
journey that ended in the creation of the New Century Tarot. Eichelmann
sketched the majors while on La Gomera, one of the Canary Islands, and
finished the deck in 2002 in his homeland, Germany. The images for the
major arcana have similar backgrounds. The upper half is a row of reddish
trees, while the lower half is a more open landscape. The details on each
card are unique. Eichelmann explains the symbolism in the instruction booklet.
Each suit also has a characteristic background - clouds and a sky of distinctive
colors. For pentacles, the sky is yellow with reddish clouds (see right).
Each minor card also has a decorative vail in the center for the suit symbols.
At the bottom there is a small scene highlighting each card's meaning.
